As per earlier discussion at the dojo, there are two martial arts TV series out there on cable.  Both operate on the same idea of going to a different country each episode to explore the history and training of whatever discipline is being focused on.

The first is Human Weapon on the History Channel,

and the second is Deadly Arts on FitTV,

The Deadly Arts episode on Aikido is going to be aired on Thursday.  It will be on the Aikikai side of things, but might be of note.  Judging by the service given to other arts on other episodes, i expect it to have a lot of lip service with very little noteworthy footage.
I'm sure that the Human Weapon guys will get around to doing it eventually.  They ususally have a competition of some sort at the end of each episode.  It could be cool to see them master a taigi, but i'm sure it will probably be a randoori of some sort.

anyway, i enjoy these shows, despite their limitations and pomp.

Both these shows are made for just that "SHOW". I just finished watching the one for Savate and it looked more like 2 boxers with bad footwork. I don't think they could do Aikido justice. I'll have to tivo the show for a while to see if I can get the Aikido one recorded.

In my many but yet still not so many years I have studied Tang Soo Do, TaeKwando and Ki Aikido. I am blessed to say that having had a wonderful Sensei (Merley Sensei) and having attended a few seminars and a very pricey sushi dinner with Eley Sensei. I have grown to understand and love the art of Aikido in all it's glory. Striking an individual is one thing but redirecting the mind is so much more. How can you take the concept of a no touch throw and explain it or learn it in a short amount of time for a tv show and then effectively explain the concept.

Strange how we teach our bodies to do one thing but then have to reteach bodies and minds to be natural for Aikido. An amazing art Aikido is!!!
