Saint Louis Ki Society presents the
Summer Ki Workshop
A “Dynamic Meditation” Intensive

August 8 & 9, 2009

This is a great way to get an in-depth look at
Mind/Body Oneness (Shin-Shin Toitsu Do)

Join us at the Saint Louis Ki Society Dojo, 6006 Pershing Ave, St. Louis Missouri

The Saint Louis Ki Society School is located between Pershing Avenue and Forest Park Parkway at Des Peres Avenue, near Washington University. The school is at the corner of Pershing & Des Peres. The best way to drive there is to take Forest Park Parkway to Des Peres Avenue, turn north and make an immediate left into the parking lot at the side of the building.

The Teacher for this workshop is Mark Rubbert. He is Head Instructor for Saint Louis Ki Society and has practiced Aikido and Japanese Yoga since 1979. He has taught regularly for over twenty years. He holds the ranks of Godan (fifth degree black belt) in Aikido and Joden (third-degree black belt) in Shin-Shin Toitsu Do (Ki Development). He is certified to teach by Ki Society International as an Associate Ki Lecturer.

Four Basic Principles of Ki Society teaching methods are taught and explored:
   Keep One Point (calm centering),
   Relax Completely (let go of unnecessary tension),
   Keep Weight Underside (correct posture),
   Extend Ki (be present and focused).

The Training and Activities
The emphasis in this workshop is on self-discipline, choosing to focus on the positive, and the principle that mind leads the body.
•   Oneness Rhythm Exercises, a set of rhythmic movements, is used to learn about applying mind and body coordination to movement. It also provides insight into the application of mind and body coordination to many situations, whether the body is still or moving.
•   Ki Meditation allows time for the mind to become gradually calmer. Specifics of posture and mudra (hand position) will be taught. The ability to calmly focus the mind for a long period of time can be used for more targeted meditations. In the same way using a muscle can increase its strength, using the mind in certain ways increases those particular abilities.
•   Breathing Exercises: Calm breathing exercise is a basic meditation that focuses on a simple but precise breathing technique. “Quick” breathing is a method for quickly regaining mind and body coordination under difficult circumstances.
•   Ki-Ai uses the voice and breath to sharply and clearly focus the mind. This technique will be taught in class and used in Sokushin training.
•   Sokushin training (“training the mind through the breath”) consists of chanting in a series of forceful exhalations. This strong, rhythmic breathing, along with the insights of relaxation training, is both invigorating and peaceful. It helps develop powerful, self-directed motivation.
•   Kiatsu Ho (self healing massage) “Ki pressing” improves circulation, reduces tension, and enhances health. It also helps reduce or eliminate pain, stiffness, and swelling caused by stress or minor injury.
•   Bokken (wooden sword) The bokken will be used in classes to help understand posture, movement and the principles of Ki extension.
