Thank god for that... There's a forum out there (cant remember the address) that is like up to it's neck in DBZ crap, and they all think it's real. So this is a sensible forum then?

I don't think that the school of ki-aikido has any doctrinal approach to the subject of ki blasts.  This is because there is very little doctrine -- only underlying principles of mind and body unification.   So, Son_Gokai, what is your understanding about ki blasts and why do you ask? Smiley

I had written a very hilarious little bit about the belief of ki blasts being directly related to the proportion of food I had eaten at Taco Bell an hour earlier. However, since I felt stooping to such sophomoric humor would negate a serious discussion... I deleted it.

Oh no! A humorless forum? Please post it again - or at least a link where we can read that.

So, nobody said, are ki blasts possible?  I'm not really interested in that, I'm interested in all the other stuff, like using ki to increase your body strength and punches.  You can do that, right?  Well, if you could do ki blasts, that would be nice, but could someone tell me? I'm so confused about everything! All I want is the truth, I get people saying they are real and they're not, and I don't want to do something thats not possible.  So, can you guys please give me the answer?  I just want to know whats going on!   Huh

Hi Kaabi,
Maybe no one answered you because no one seems to use these forums!
"Ki blasts" are of course possible, but not in the juvenile notion of obliterating everything in you path with your ki. Ki is generally accepted to be the lifeforce, not some weird deathray.
An example of this would be when you look at someone on the street who is not even vaguely near or interested in you, and then they turn and look you right in the eye. In this case, they're sensitive enough to (unconsciously) feel your ki come towards them, and to notice where it is sourced from. I'm not suggesting you go eyeball everyone on the street, as most people aren't too aware such things, and you could just cause heaps of trouble! You probably will be suprised how much it works though, as long as you project ki naturally and without forced intention.
A more negative example would be when you're walking around in a real bad mood, and people all around you seem to drop things, stack their bikes, and generally become more angry or negative themselves. You'll probably find you get out of sinc with things on days like this also, like missing the bus by a few seconds multiple times. This is probably closer to your idea of "ki blasts", but nowhere near as much fun!
Probably not the answer you're looking for, but I hope it helps anyhow.

Son_Gokai,

I don't know what "Ki Blasts" are. I've never heard the term. Perhaps if you can explain what you mean, I can give some helpful advice.

Ok so I'm going to give up on the thought of the palm blast.  So, what I really came here for, how can I use my ki to improve my Kung Fu techniques and improve my strength.  Is there a school in Maryland? And tell me about that "Ki in Daily Life" book.

Ki is a way of understanding the power of natural movement. In martial arts, there is a tendency to try to hard, and we end up over-using some muscles and under-using others Our movement is limited and not as powerful as it could be. Many people overcome this through years of training and repetition. Some never find it. When the mind is clear and calm, our movement is very powerful.

Check out www.marylandkisociety.org for information on training in Maryland.

I pick up and re-read sections of Ki In Daily Life by Koichi Tohei every couple of years. I first read it more than 20 years ago, and I still get insights from it.

Mark's definately on the money with regards to "Ki in Daily Life." Its seems to be one of those books that slowly reveals itself to you, it makes more sense the longer you practise. I figure this is what these manuals are originally designed for.
The best thing about this book is it appears to be accessable and practical even to non aikidoka. I don't practise "Ki style" aikido but I still find the book incredibly helpful.  Apparently it is quite rare, as manuals usually seem to cater only for practitioners of the given art they are instructing on. I remember when I first started aikido Ueshiba's book "Budo" hardly made any sense, and now I'm still finding more hidden goodies in it.
If you practise Kung fu though, there's tons of stuff out there that is focused on Chi/Ki cultivation for many various arts. I've always kinda envied the amount that is written about energy applications specifically for those who train in the Chinese arts.

Okay, well as far as I am aware Penn and teller have never done any Aikido, and I have done very very little (Tai Chi is my thang) but I do have some experience of this and for what it's worth here are my thoughts on this.

I got to go to Oomoto two years back, and if you want to check out their website you can see pictures of O Sensai and Deguchi doing Chinkon mediation together. Now I know a lot of schools of Aikido dont value it too much, I guess it varies with every school, but while I was in Japan, it was with my teacher of Shiatsu and Seiki Soho (Life energy Guidance) and we got to do O Hyakudo walking practice and Misogi at Ise no Jingu at Naigu in the Oe Mountains, and afterwards we went to stay with the Oomoto people where we did some Chinkon meditation - albeit a different version to that O Sensai practiced, and that produced some amazing results in treatment. We practice a spiral spinal breathing technique i have mentioned in another posting, and Gyo Ki - the practice of feeling a "ball" of energy  between the hands and all I can say was that after all the purification rituals we had done, many of us found it easy to initiate "Katsugen" - a state of spontaneous movement proposed by Noguchi - another Japanese healer who practiced Seitai, elements of which we use in Seiki, and that is about as near as an energy blast as I have felt. When you prepare and "feel" your way down a spine at the start of treatment there can be a few seconds before you connect down to the vertebrae you are looking for, that time was reduced to milliseconds by the time we got to Oomoto.

It does happen, but I guess preparation is the key to this one.
