One of the basics of Tohei Sensei's teaching is to lead the mind rather than force the body. He often expressed it as "if mind moves, body moves." This is true of receiving a Ki test and in performing an Aikido technique. I have been musing on this more recently, especially since we were practicing "painless" nikkyo techniques at the National Ki Conference. Scientists are also doing research that is creating a lot of good questions about how the mind works. There is a great article about this in yesterday's New York Times. Here is a link to the article. The best research always ends up with more questions than answers. This is certainly true of the research mentioned in the article.

Just musing on the subject line ...

So in referring to oneself, instead of "leading the mind" we would say the mind leads (is leading)? Or perhaps motivates?

As in, my mind motivates (coaxes or coaches) my one-point to "lead" my body?

Which I guess boils down to training the mind, to train the one-point, to train the body? Ki testing then provides feedback to see if there's a miscommunication in the pipeline.

hmmm ...

Lately I have been amusing myself on YouTube, watching videos from Derren Brown.  If you've never seen him lead minds, this
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f29kF1vZ62o might give you an idea on how far he can go and how he does it.

Since this can be applied to martial arts, here is Darren Brown doing a no-touch punch:
